Józef Pisudski’s Obelisk

T. Kościuszki 18 Street – interesting objects near the tour road

Obelisk was funded by citizens of Otwock, to commemorate the stay of marshal Józef Piłsudski in our town. Ceremonially, it was disclosed on November 11th 1938 in 20 anniversary of regaining the independence by Poland. 
Obelisk was located near to guesthouse of Jadwiga Nestorowicz, in which together with his headquarters, in 1915 Józef Piłsudski stayed.  
Obelisk survived war, but it went missing on the turn of 50 and 60.  He was retrieved in 1991 in Museum of the Earth of Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Renovated, it returned to his former place. 
The inscription  on it says: 
“Józef Piłsudski came from front line to Warsaw, for deliberation with leaders of capital city people. Forced by occupants to leave it, he stayed in nearby, no more existing house. Over here, deliberations he led. 20 VIII – 4 IX 1915 r. ”
There is a conserved photography o Józef Piłsudski stay in Otwock.  On this photography, from the left w can see: Pruszkowski, Treszer, Stanisław Baczyński, Juliusz Kaden-Bandrowski, Wacław Orłowski. People who sit are: Gustaw Orlicz-Dreszer, Józef Klemens Piłsudski, dr Stanisław Roupert, Bolesław Ignacy Wieniawa-Długoszowski.
Otwock was and still is proud that marshal Józef Piłsudski lived here. From 1991, the huge amount of public and municipal ceremonies have been held at this obelisk.
